Search Engine Placement Tips by Connie Glutyk
The tips below will help you be in the “top 10” results on the major search engines for your keyword queries, for being in the 11th or later position means that your site will be missed. As you are aware only those keywords that are relevant matches are displayed on the first page of Google for search engine placement.
Importance of Targeted
Picking the right keywords are so important for your site as these are the words that are going to bring visitors to your site. You must try and think of the keywords someone would type into the search box when looking for what you have to offer.
Also, remember that each page of your site will have a different keyword that reflects that pages content. These targeted keywords should always be a least two or more words long, sometimes also called “long tailed keywords” because single keywords are too hard to fight the competition for; success is what you are looking for not a battle in your search engine placement.
Crucial Keyword Page Locations:
Place your targeted keywords in your title, this is critical for your websites success. You should use a H1 Title tag. Use your top two or three keyword phrases that you want your website to be found for. Keep them short, to the point and interesting so someone wants to click through and read your site.
Keep your content relevant to your titles topic and use your keywords in the page content at least 3 time, once in bold, once in italize, and once underslined. Images add a lot of visual for visitors and add to your pages overall look and feel, just make be sure that they are HTML coded for keyword relevancy.
You can also use keywords that are relevant to your pages theme keyword by adding “ing”, “s” or a full word in front of your keyword like “fishing”, using “lake fishing” or “garden” using “fragrance gardens”. This reinforces your strategic keywords in a natural and legitimate manner.
Sometimes your inside pages are more relevant than your home page and to solve that problem it is wise to put a link on the page linking back to your homepage. These are called hyperlinks and are usually put near or at the bottom of the page and forms part of search engine placement procedures.
Placing a sitemap page on your site with links to every page within your site, this helps search engines to locate pages within your website.
Using internal links between your pages makes sure that search engines will follow them and find more of your website.
Inbound Link Building:
By building links you can help improve how well your page perform in link analysis systems. Link analysis gives search engines a useful means of determining which pages are good for rticular topics and difficult for webmasters to fake good links or manipulate the words. The key is to understand that your links must also be relevant to your pages content and related to your topics keywords. You want them to be from authority sites not just any site as this helps your ranking.
You can build backlinks by visiting sites with your targeted keywords on Google that are on the top results and ask the site owner if they will link with you. Another way is to join Google Groups and again find sites related to your relevant keywords leave comments and your link, join forums and have your link in your signature line. Of course you must join the conversation and give back not just take.
Pages that are on the top of Google will be authorative sites, have lots of visitors and you just may start to receive visitors to your site too leaving links also.
Submitting your Own Pages
Submit your sites first 3 pages manually and keep track to be sure there are no problems. You can use automated submission services but the 3 major search engines are too important to let anything go wrong. Submit just the first 2 or 3 pages, submitting more does not speed up the process and be patient, it might take a month or two to see your non-submitted pages show up. No all pages from your site are listed either.
Remember to check your pages to ensure they get listed, once listed, monitor every week or two, strange things happen, links get broken, pages disappear, just fix it and resubmit if you have any problems.
Resubmit anytime you make significant changes or sign up and use a pinging service, most are free and they will ping your site to the search engines to come crawling once a month or how often you want it done.
Marketing Your Site:
Since the advent of Web 2.0 applications, people are finding sites through feeds, blogs, podcasts, videos, word-of-mouth, traditional advertising, traditional media, blog post, web directories, links from other sites and many other means. Sometimes, these alternative forms can be more effective draws than search engines. The most effective marketing strategy is to combine search marketing with other online and offline media.
